H: 4 1/2" Cold Cast Marble-like Resin
This is a reproduction of the Venere di Grotticella, or Fontana della Venere or Fountain of Venus by Giambologna. Giambologna made a detailed study of the sculptures of classical antiquity. He was also much influenced by Michelangelo, but developed his own Mannerist style, with perhaps less emphasis on emotion and more emphasis on refined surfaces, cool elegance and beauty. This work was commissioned in about 1559 by the Medici Family.
The quality of the casting of this figurine is excellent, with good detail, and the cold cast resin has a natural sheen and weight and will blend well with authentic and more expensive antique pieces.
